Yewedekutin ansu Charity Association for Destitute (YACAD) is an indigenous not for profit humanitarian non-governmental organization established in 1997 and legally registered by Ministry of Justice and has been re-registered by Charities and Societies Agency as an Ethiopian Resident Society Organization with a registration number 1195 having the objective of helping abandoned, destitute and elderly people suffering from circumstances of old age, poverty and illness, who needs third party’s support in terms of shelter, food and medical care. It is working in Addis Ababa, the capital of the country, at Gulele Sub-city, Woreda 01 locally known as Shiromeda and Yeka sub-city, wereda 01, Ferensay Legasion, 41 Eyesus areas.

To alleviate the suffering of such needy people YACAD accomplish tasks that has resulted a remarkable achievement. Supporting abandoned, sick and frail elderly and non-elderly people incorporates love, shelter, food, cloth and medical care services. Since its establishment it has reached more than 1,500 (55% are female) poor and sick people in the community, particularly those homeless, abandoned elderly peoples sheltering on the streets and around churches, including abandoned disabled people and others, who are not able to move by themselves due to their illness and impairments. The association takes care of these people, irrespective of their sex, age and religion. It also facilitates dignified funeral services for numbers of beneficiaries, due to their chronic illness and deprivation after they join the organization.

Establishment

The project was initiated historically by an individual who has gone through very difficult situation while he was sick and promised for himself to dedicate his life in supporting others who get into such situations in terms of their health, age and related socio-economic problems. Eventually, many volunteers who support the idea joined the association and obtained legal status. The Association was established in 1997G.C and has been serving the elders and other destitute people for the last 25 years
